Dr. Alyssa Kaying Vang, PsyD, LP
"I believe that in order for hope and healing to take place, a safe, nurturing and trusting environment must be established. I strive to create such an environment."
Dr. Vang received her BA in Psychology from the University of California, Santa Barbara. She received her MA and PsyD in Clinical Psychology with an emphasis in Cross-Cultural Psychology from the California School of Professional Psychology, Fresno.
Dr. Vang has experience treating individuals from all age groups with a wide range of mental health problems. However, she particularly enjoys working with young children, school-aged children and young adults. She has worked with the pediatric population for many years at Hennepin County Medical Center and Children's Hospitals and Clinics of Minnesota. She believes that children either struggle to express their feelings or have had their voices silenced by those around them. As such, Dr. Vang works hard to help children work through these challenges so they can realize their maximum potential.
Dr. Vang specializes in anxiety, depression, chronic pain management and trauma. Her caseload has increasingly included treating adults who suffer from significant trauma, particularly those with a history of sexual abuse.
Dr. Vang has expertise in refugee mental health. Specifically, because she is of Hmong descent (immigrating to the United States at the age of 7 as a refugee), she understands many of the cultural and mental health struggles Hmong families deal with daily. As the first Hmong-speaking licensed psychologist in Minnesota, she is committed to providing high-quality and ethical services to Hmong families and other refugee populations. She also enjoys consulting about Hmong mental health issues and best practices.
Dr. Vang welcomes the opportunity to work in partnership with you on achieving a better-balanced life.
